Prosecutor's office say infant died of "shaken baby syndrome"

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has announced a charge of homicide against Trisha Woodworth, age 26, in the death of the 8-month-old infant Maci Moor.

County prosecutors approved charges of aggravated battery, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and battery resulting in death to a person less than 14 years of age.

Woodworth was the baby sitter on April 15, 2016 when Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a residence in the 2200 block of West 41st Avenue, Gary, to assist emergency medical personnel with Moor, who was breathing but unresponsive.

Moor was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital and then airlifted to University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital where she died on April 17, 2016. Her death was subsequently ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner with the cause of death being closed head injuries consistent with “shaken baby syndrome.”

On March 20, 2017, detectives of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Unit arrested Woodworth, a Gary resident on charges related to the death of Moor.
