Judge Gina Jones appointed to fill vacancy of Judge Boswell

Will move from Civil to Criminal Division
Lake Superior Court Judge Gina Jones has been selected to fill the vacancy on the court left by the death of Judge Diane Boswell in October.
The decision was announced Monday by the Lake County Judical Nominating Commission, transferring Judge Jones to the Criminal Division. Jones will start December 20th.
The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission is a seven-member panel -- three members appointed by the Governor, three members appointed by the Lake County Board of Commissioners, and one Supreme Court Justice who serves as chair.
In October 2019, Jones, then judge for the Merrillville Town Court for the past 8 years, was appointed by Gov. Eric Holcomb to the Lake County Superior Court to replace Judge John Pera who had retired in June.
Jones previously served in the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office as executive director of the child support division from 2003 through 2010.
Jones is a Gary native. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and her law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law.
