Brown says he will support her

Coming on the heels of State Rep. Charlie Brown’s announcement the House seat he’s held for 35 years is now up for grabs, Gary City Councilwoman and local Attorney, Ragen Hatcher issued a statement that she will seek to replace him as Indiana State House District 3 representative in 2018.

And Brown says he will support her.

Hatcher stated, “I want to thank Representative Brown for his many years of service. I have had an opportunity to speak with him and he enthusiastically agreed to support me and my candidacy. In announcing my intent to run, I will take the initial steps to build the campaign organization required to pursue Indiana's House District 3." Ragen Hatcher said.

Hatcher stated, "My decision to run is based in my love for community and service. I have actively fought for the citizens of Gary for the last ten years and look forward to serving District 3, which includes Gary, Hobart, Lake Station and New Chicago, with the same passion and commitment. Growing up in public service, I have committed my life to being a voice for the voiceless. I look forward to serving the people of the 3rd District in the Indiana General Assembly.”

In Rep. Brown’s statement announcing his decision not to seek re-election, he said, “... there is one more job I should do, God and the voters willing.” Though it’s not official, it’s known Rep. Brown has his eyes on the seat on the Lake County Council held by Jamal Washington.
