New Ebenezer MBC and Progressive Community Church … harnessing the power of the sun

New Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 305 E. 68th Place, Merrillville, will host a Using Energy Prudently workshop, led by Hoosier Interfaith Power & Light, on Saturday, March 24, 10 am - 3 pm. This workshop is co-hosted by Progressive Community Church of Gary.

H-IPL’s Using Energy Prudently workshops equip congregations with tools to greatly reduce energy use in houses of worship and save significant funds for other purposes.

The workshop is also open to anyone interested in learning more about energy efficiency in buildings from homes to larger buildings.

Both churches have installed rooftop solar panels, resulting in less spending on utilities and more on their missions.

Those attending will gain practical information about sealing the building envelope; maintaining and replacing HVAC equipment; using zoning and thermostats to slash energy waste; lighting technologies for various rooms; and detecting energy hogs in a building.

Congregational leaders, especially board members, property committees, and green teams are urged to attend.

This workshop is free, including lunch and a binder of information to take with you. Ordinarily the cost is $20-$25, but the two host congregations are offering to take care of all expenses. They do this out of gratitude for the funds their churches have saved in electricity and gas over the past three years.

Register by going to the H-IPL Calendar at http://www.hoosieripl.org/calendar-2 and selecting the date, March 24. For more information, contact Amy Barnes, amybarnes@hoosieripl.org.
