Grandson of fire victim faces charges of arson/homicide

Gary Police file murder charges against Kyle Gray

Lieutenant Dawn Westerfield, Public Information Officer for the Gary Police Department announced arson/homicide charges were filed in conjunction with a house fire that occurred Thursday, June 28.

The Gary Fire Dept. responded to a call of a house fire in the early morning hours of June 28 in the 3400 block of Johnson Street, recovering a woman’s body at the address.

Soon after, Lt. Westerfield said no determinations were made on the cause of death until the scene could be investigated by the State Fire Marshall.

Friday afternoon, Detective Kristopher Adams secured arson/murder charges against Kyle Gray, age 25 of Gary. The victim was a 79-year-old female, Gray's grandmother.

Kyle Gray is charged with Murder, Murder in Perpetration of an Arson, Arson Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Arson. Gray is currently in custody.
