Vehicle speeding in construction zone leads ISP and Gary police on chase

Officers from the Indiana State Police and Gary Police Dept. were needed to corral a driver from Indianapolis clocked at driving 82 miles per hour in a construction zone on I-65.
ISP Master Trooper Lionel Douglas was working in the construction zone, Monday, September 16, on I-65 near the 259 mile marker (1½ mile south of the 15th Avenue exit) when he observed a 2006 Pontiac G6 going north bound at a high rate of speed.
Douglas was able to get a radar clock at 82 miles per hour in a well posted 45 mph construction zone. Douglas activated his emergency lights and siren on his fully marked state police car and the Pontiac refused to stop.
It appeared to Douglas, the female driving was the only occupant in the car. The Pontiac continued northbound on I-65 and stopped at the intersection of US 20 for the red traffic light behind other vehicles. After the signal turned green the Pontiac turned west onto US 20 and continued to drive.
A west bound fully marked Gary Police car activated its emergency lights to assist Douglas in stopping the Pontiac. The Pontiac while on US 20 slowed down their speed to within the speed limit when the Gary police car drove alongside the Pontiac as they approached 6th Avenue intersection to get their attention.
The driver of the Pontiac, later identified as Infinity Davis, 24 of Indianapolis, attempted to evade both patrol cars by making a sudden turn onto 6th Avenue and continued driving west until the Gary police unit completely blocked the Pontiac at the Ohio Street intersection.
It was then discovered Davis had two small infant children in her vehicle, both securely belted in the rear seat. Davis stated she was afraid and was trying to make it to a relative’s home in Gary before stopping. The children were turned over to the relative. The Pontiac was towed for expired registration.
Davis was taken into custody and incarcerated at the Lake County Jail in Crown Point for Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Speeding and Expired License Plate.
ISP Public Information Officer Ann Wojas stated, “Indiana State Police understand that people may be afraid or feel unsafe if they are pulled over by someone not wearing a police uniform or in a marked police car. This was not the case. The traffic stop was during daylight hours, both officers were dressed in full uniforms, and driving fully marked police cars. To avoid any confusion it is strongly urged for anyone to pull over as soon and as safely as possible.”
