District will develop Gary schools Hall of Fame at West Side
Taking a cue from its neighboring school districts, the Gary Community School Corporation has adopted a single mascot for all of its schools.
“From day one, as children enter our district, they will be Cougars," GCSC Manager Paige McNulty said during its Enrollment Fair last week, introducing West Side Leadership Academy's 'Calvin the Cougar' as the mascot for the entire district.
The district's 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schols and 1 pre-K school will share West Side's mascot and blue and gold colors,
“As a school community, we made the bold and exciting decision to fully unite our district," McNulty said.
“We acknowledge that there were other high schools in Gary, and their memory will live on here at West Side through the development of Gary Schools Hall of Fame. Photos, memorabilia and alumni will be showcased for all of the community to see. We will share more details as this project takes form,” added McNulty. “Choosing logos and colors is really the easy part. The real work comes in embracing a new way of doing things that are best for children."
