2016-2017 models qualify for discounts

South Shore Clean Cities (SSCC) and Nissan have teamed up to offer a generous discount on the Nissan LEAF, representatives said Wednesday.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities coalitions are nonprofit organizations designed to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector by advancing the use of clean fuels and vehicles, idle reduction technologies, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel blends and fuel economy while reducing dependence on imported oil.

Starting today and continuing through March 31, 2017 Nissan will offer Northern Indiana Public Services Company (NIPSCO) employees and qualifying customers a special price on its 2016 and 2017 Nissan LEAFs.

Nissan has partnered with SSCC to extend a special incentive of $10,000 off the MSRP to all eligible NIPSCO employees and customers who purchase a LEAF from a LEAF-certified Nissan dealer. After the sale, customers can apply for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500.

“This is a great opportunity for NIPSCO employees and customers to purchase a new, all electric car at a heavily discounted price” Carl Lisek, executive director of South Shore Clean Cities said. “With the 107-mile range on a single charge and the average work commute of less than 50 miles round trip, the LEAF is a great way to reduce your household’s foreign oil consumption”.
