New this year – casino trip and class dinner dance

Froebel Class of 1962 will host their 55th Year Reunion during the weekend of August 10-12 in Gary, IN.

The three-day event will begin with a Meet & Greet Card Party sponsored by the Class and the Froebel Alumni Park Committee on Thursday, August 10. On Friday, August 11 at 9 a.m. buses will leave from the parking lot at Indiana University Northwest for the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City. Participants will receive $10 in chips and free lunch. At 7 p.m. the Class will sponsor a Dinner-Dance at the Genesis Center. Class members will receive two reunion gifts. Entertainment will be provided.

To close out the reunion, the Annual Froebel-Roosevelt Nostalgia will be held on Saturday, August 12. The event begins on Saturday with a picnic at the Froebel School Park, 15th and Madison St. The picnic, scheduled from noon to 5 p.m., will feature music, food and fun. Persons interested in renting a booth for $35 (unsheltered) or $50 (with a tent) or $75 (shelter) should contact Dr. Vernon G. Smith, Chairman, at 887-2046.

The picnic is free to all persons interested in attending.

The weekend will conclude Saturday night with an “Oldies, But Goodies” dance in the Genesis Convention Center. The dance is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m. A local D.J. will provide the music. Admission to the dance is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Advanced tickets for both events can be purchased at Beautiful Things, 3570 Village Court, in the Village Shopping Mall or by calling Smith at 887-2046.

Dr. Vernon G. Smith, Chairman of the event, said that persons who want to join the Class for the three-day event may do so for only $75 if they register before June 30. After then the cost will be $125. Persons interested should pay their fee at Beautiful Things, Smith said.
