Three homicide victims discovered Sunday are related

Lake County Coroner reports another homicide Monday in Gary

Three homicide victims found Sunday by Gary Police officers have been identified. Found in separate locations were a female and two males in an automobile. Lieutenant Dawn Westerfield, the Public Information Officer for the Gary Police Department did not have identities for the victims on Sunday.

On July 15, 2018 at approximately 4:20 a.m., the Gary Police Department responded to the 2500 block of Central Avenue for a welfare check. Upon arrival officers discovered a female with apparent gunshot wounds. The female was later declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroners Office.

Monday, she was identified as Heather Talley, age 27, of Hammond.

The coroner listed several tattoos on the female victim: Left eyebrow small stars, left chest “YOLO,” right chest “William,” center shoulder blades “Heather” with hearts and stars underneath, left foot multiple star tattoos, right thigh “Live, Laugh, Love,” and left wrist “Darius”

On July 15, 2018 at approximately 8:08 a.m. the Gary Police Department responded to the area of 9th Place and Harrison Street for reports of a suspicious vehicle. Upon inspection of the vehicle officers discovered two males inside with apparent gunshot wounds. Both males were declared deceased on scene by the Lake County Coroners Office.

The coroner identified one of the men as Nicholas Edwards, age 28, of Gary. The second male was identified as Darius Ross, age 28, also of Gary.

According to the NWI Times, Darius Ross and Heather Talley were engaged to be married. A family member said, the “Hammond woman, her fiancé and their friend went out to celebrate the fiancé’s birthday Saturday and never returned.”

The coroner found the tattoo “South Side” on the right forearm of one of the men. The coroner didn’t find identifying marks on the second male victim.

Today, at 11:25 a.m., the coroner’s office reported another unidentified homicide victim with gunshot wounds was found in the alley of 733 Georgia St.

Detective Alexander Jones is investigating both incidents. The investigations are in the preliminary stages and any further information will be released as it becomes available.
