Wash., D.C. – Attorney General William P. Barr today announced the appointment of U.S. Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II as one of 9 U.S. Attorneys to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC).

Kirsch was nominated by President Donald J. Trump as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana and confirmed by the Senate with the President signing his commission on October 6, 2017.

“I am pleased to appoint these nine outstanding U.S. Attorneys to this key advisory committee. I am confident that they will serve with distinction,” Attorney General William P. Barr said. “The U.S. Attorneys who comprise the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee play a critical role in carrying out the Department of Justice’s important work, including its efforts to reduce violent crime, combat the opioid crisis, protect the most vulnerable, and enforce the rule of law.”

U.S. Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II said, “I am honored that Attorney General Barr has appointed me to serve on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. The Committee plays a central role in implementing new programs and policies for the Department of Justice. It is a privilege for me to be able to serve the Department and Attorney General in this manner.”

Attorney Kirsch is a former partner at Winston & Strawn LLP. At Winston & Strawn, Mr. Kirsch litigated commercial and criminal matters in trial and appellate courts across the United States.

Atty. Kirsch also conducted corporate internal investigations and handled regulatory matters before numerous federal and state agencies. Before joining Winston & Strawn, Mr. Kirsch served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Indiana from 2001-2008, focusing on white collar investigations and prosecutions, including the prosecution of numerous elected and appointed public officials.

Prior to serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Kirsch served as a law clerk to the Honorable John D. Tinder in the Southern District of Indiana.

He received a B.A. in Economics and Political Science in 1996 from Indiana University and a J.D. in 1999 from Harvard Law School.

The AGAC represents the voice of the U.S. Attorneys and provides advice and counsel to the Attorney General on policy, management, and operational issues impacting U.S. Attorneys’ Offices.
