African American Achievers host Back-To-School Picnic

The 36th Annual Froebel-Roosevelt Nostalgia Weekend is set for Saturday, August 14. This year because of the continuing pandemic the Oldies But Goodies Dance will not be held.

However, the most popular Froebel-Roosevelt Picnic will be held. The event will be held on the lawn of Froebel High School Campus at 15th & Madison. The event begins at noon and concludes at 5 p.m. Music and food will be provided.

Smith said vendors are also being sought to set up at the picnic. The cost of a one-day booth is $35 unsheltered, $50 for a tent and $75 for a shelter. Booths may be paid for at Beautiful Things at 4335 Broadway.

Smith said the Committee is also asking for donations to be used for the upkeep of the Froebel Park. Donations may also be left at Beautiful Things or can be mailed to the Froebel Park Committee, P.O. Box 64622, Gary, In 46401

The African American Achievers Youth Corps, Inc. will host their annual Back-to-School Picnic for the youth of the region on Saturday, August 14 on the grounds of Froebel Park, 15th& Madison St., Gary. The picnic will be held in conjunction with the annual Froebel-Roosevelt Picnic. Free food and entertainment will be provided for the youth and the families of the Achievers.

The African American Achievers Youth Corps, Inc. is a mentoring program for African American males, grades 6-12. Boys interested in joining or parents and school personnel interested in recommending boys should contact Dr. Vernon G. Smith at 219 887-2046.
