Data analysis tracks down new numbers
Gary's reporting of coronavirus deaths that more than doubled from 21 on May 26 to 47 the next day, May 27 is a more accurate count city officials say.
The number of actual deaths did not increase overnight.
At Friday's Covid-19 update, Gary Health Commissioner Dr. Roland Walker said reexamination of health records led to the new number for Gary residents' deaths related to Covid-19. "With the help of a data analyst employed by the city, we were able to take a closer look and re-evaluate our internal numbers," Dr. Walker said.
As of May 29, Dr. Walker said the number of positive Covid-19 cases in Gary is 644 and number of deaths related to Covid-19 in Gary is 48.
