Lake County Sheriff investigating home invasion complaint

Suspects posed as NIPSCO employees

Lake County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating a complaint of a possible home invasion on Tuesday, March 26 in the Lake Dalecarlia area in the southern portion of Lake County.

The resident told police two male subjects posing as NIPSCO employees forced their way into her home, restrained her, and then ransacked the home.

One of the suspects was described as a White male, stocky with a large stomach. He was wearing a yellow and orange reflective vest, a white mask and tan work boots.

The second suspect is a Black male with a slender build, wearing dark, loose blue jeans and white medical mask. His hair was in short braids.

The approximate age of both men is in their late 20s to early 30s. The approximate height of both men is between 6’ and 6’4”.

The men were believed to have been traveling in a yellow rental van similar to a Ford E-Transit with a Penske logo.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Report-A-Crime Hotline at 1-800-750-2746. Anonymous tips can be texted to the sheriff’s Tip411 platform by texting the keyword LSCO and the tip to 847411.

NIPSCO representatives are aware of scammers pretending to be NIPSCO employees.

Residents who have questions about people claiming to represent NIPSCO should call the utility’s customer care team at 1-800-464-7726.

The resident has been evaluated at a local hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
